How saving works

Every song lives in this browser. Your work saves itself as you go, so closing the tab and coming back later picks up where you left off. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.

Saving a project file writes a .saturn file containing everything — the audio, where each clip sits on the timeline, trims and fades, the whole mix, and the master if you have made one. Keep it as a backup, or move a song to another machine.

Chrome and Edge on desktop

Open a project file from disk and the song stays linked to that file. Pressing Save file writes back to it, wherever you keep it, the way a normal document behaves. The header shows which file the open song is linked to.

Safari, Firefox, and mobile

These browsers can't write to a file on disk. Opening a project file copies it into the browser, and that copy becomes the live version. Saving downloads a new file rather than updating the original, so the one in your folder stays as it was when you saved it.
